Travel tips?
Posted by tara777 on 2009-09-28 21:29

Hi-I'm still new to all this!
My pacemaker is 2 & 1/2 weeks old and we will be going to Europe in another 2 weeks. I have not fared well with dehydration in the past then I get into real trouble,) so I will be alert to that issue but if anyone has any other travel tips, I would really appreciate it!

On a side note, I went into a department store today and walked past the In Store Security system and my heart/pacemaker/defib -whatever it was - started freaking out. It was really scary. My heart felt like it was doing flips in there and my sports watch could not read my pulse - it was jumping up and down. Once I realized what had caused this event ( I had taken 4 steps away from the units when it hit), the store was very nice and turned the door unit off so I could leave without incident. They did mention that they were newly installed...maybe a stronger version or maybe since my voltage has not been turned down yet at my 4 week check up? Or maybe I am just ultra sensitive...Has anyone else had any reaction like this?

Thanks.

Strange

The experience with the security system is unusual. It must be putting out a pretty strong signal. I been running around stores and all sorts of other sources of possible interference for around 5 years with my pacer and have never had even a hint of a problem.

Hi!

I agree with Frank. Just one note: my heart rate monitor (Polar) can't read my pulse whenever I'm close to technical equipment like my notebook. What it shows then is a completely irregular pulse, sometimes even no heart rate at all. But that's a problem the monitor has, not my heart. My heartbeat is perfectly normal at that time.

Best wishes

I had a similar problem in a newly opened Walmart Store in our area and frankly it scared the bejesus out of me. I have been in and out of alot of stores and this was the first time anything like this had happened.

Triggering Security Alarms

I am a new pm recepient, 11/23/09. and have discovered that my pm sets off some store security units. I was stopped once by a store emloyee and I expalned that I had a pm. Its an adjustment realizing that from now on I will be causing some alarms to go off and occassionally questioned by employees. What's wonderfull is that my pm so far is working great. and I am looking forward to getting back to a more active lifestyle.
