I had a pacemaker 10th November 2009 & I think it has moved up! Closer to my neck. Is this possible?

 

 

After my pacer was installed I was in my hospital room resting and the nurses came rushing in. One of my leads had fallen out. I felt really dizzy but didn't realize what had happened until they told me. So I had to back into surgery to remove the defective lead and install a new one. I ended up having two pacer surgeries in the span of 8 hours. Now my pacer moves around. I know it's a result of the double surgery. Sometimes it seems to sit much higher. When I lift weights it moves all over.
I've read about others here who have surgery to secure it. For now it doesn't bother me much so I'm keeping it as is. From what I've read here it's not unusual. If it really starts to bother me I'll look into having something done. It can be annoying. If it is really bothersome I'd mention it to your Dr.

Yes it is possible for your pacemaker to move around in there if your surgeon didn't "anchor" it down correctly.

Mine ended up in my armpit !!!!!!!

Sometimes the pocket is made too big and that will allow your pacer to move around a bit as well.

The bottom line is: how do you feel?

If it is uncomfortable and/or driving you nuts, then it's up to you if you would like it repositioned.

Implanted devices may move around in the body. It's called "pulse generator migration." It should not happen but sometimes it does.

 

I had my pace maker put in Nov.22,2009. Everything was going well till this past weekend. There seems to be a nerve ending that has made the area where the pacemaker is very hyper-sensitive. The nerve ending also shoot down my left arm. Is this possible ??? And... has this happened to anyone else. If this has happened to you what did you do? Please advice. Thank you, C.James
