My goodness that was a big step!

This has nothing to do with my heart or the pacemaker. I have had an accident.

I fell at my house from the landing to the basement on Sunday. The cellar door is in the floor of our old house and the light was off as I entered and my hubby had opened the door. He was in the cellar. I walked into the room to put something away and boom fell down to the concrete steps. I didn't fall down the stairs, i fell from the landing. I have broken my back at L4. My spine is fine but I broke the side of my L4 disc, I am in a lot of pain to say the least. I am home and trying to rest. I keep thinking OMGosh. It could have been so much worse. I can still use my arms, my legs and breathe. I think I may lose a few pounds because I can't get to the kitchen to eat ha ha. I can walk, however slowly as long as I don't move my back or hips. I am bruised badly and every muscle and surface of my body hurts. I would definitely recommend that anyone wishing to visit our cellar... please use the stairs, the fall is quite painful. The prognosis is that it will take months for me recover. the really bad news is that my left thumb suffered an injury as well and is swollen twice it's size and hurt like crazy too! Then there is the fact that I also broke a nail on my right hand. The whole time the doc were cutting off my clothes in the trauma room I kept telling them.... look at my pinkie the nail is broken! ha ha.... I've always been taught to minimize the problem... look for the good or in this case the least important thing to focus on. I just couldn't think about the fact that my back has been broken. Good grief... It's always something. I can't file my right pinkie nail because the thumb on the left is so painful and swollen... I guess I will have to wait for my girlfriends to come by to help me out. They will. :)
So in closing let me just say... take the stairs because that first step is a big one!
Blessings to you all,
Pacergiurl/Susie
p.s. through all of this my heart continued to beat just as it should ha ha... how about that!

Boy, Susie, you don't do anything half way, do you? LOL

I'm sorry you have to go through this but I'm sure with your toughness and good attitude you'll do just fine.

Just a side note -- My Mother broke her vertabrae at the age of 75. She also had to move slowly and carefully around her home for over 3 months. But she healed well and had no after effects...except losing weight. She always said it was a blessing in disguise!

Anyway, keep smiling and take good care,
Suze

If you and I didn't have bad luck....we won't have any luck at all.

And I agree with you 100%...humor is what keeps us going.

After I died twice in the ER back in 2004 after having this darn pacer...I kept on asking for my lipstick!!!!!!

But Susie, what extremes does one have to go to to lose a few pounds....I myself tried the Colitis diet!! and it worked...lol.

I too fell down an entire flight of stairs back in October (after being extremely weak from the prep for a colonoscopy) and this past Friday I found out that I have a 50% rotator cuff that is torn. The fall just made it worse as I had been experiencing left shoulder pain ever since the pacer....and I too lost a nail...my left thumb nail and it still hasn't grown back....thank gawd for fake fingernails we can glue on, eh?

Take it easy....take it slow.

Take care, hugs,
Pookie

Wow, you're right, that was a big step. Hope that you feel better soon. Those stairs can be nasty. I flopped down a flight of stairs, fell forward and did a belly flop all the way down. I have no idea why my arms were at my side (maybe I knew I'd break a nail) but when I came to a stop my left cheek was laying on the brillo pad of a door mat. My pride hurt more than my bruised cheek. As I opened my eyes I saw an Army boot and a young soldier saying Ma'm, Ma'm are you alright. Thank goodness I had on my parka since it was snowing. That poor young man tried so hard to get me right side up, hit my head a few more times. I just couldn't stop laughing, or maybe I was crying.

You take care of yourself and you'll be back in the kitchen in no time.

WOW

Looks like you won't be able to run that marathon with me afterall.
And after all of that training.....

Don't worry, before long you'll be as good as new, and remember that no one has worse luck than me.

Hey, let's skip on down the yellow brick road and ask the guy for a new L-4. Whatya say?

Happy healing,
Angelie
