From the US, Georgia. I know many of you will have questions about having a PM, I know most of y'all have never had one and most have never even had surgery. I am here to inform, answer questions, become a PenPal, and even talk to you over the phone. I was 3 yrs old when I got my first, it lasted a year. I got my second when I was 4, and my next one when I was 8. I currently have my TENTH one. I do not mind if you find me as a FRIEND on FACEBOOK (Charles Edward Nobles) or MYSPACE ( repwork@gmail.com ). I have expericenced alot in my 35 plus years and do not mind sharing the information, helping others, and just being there for holding someone's hand. Thanks Charles

This is a forum for pacer patients...

Hi Charles & welcome to the board!
Well, since this is a board for pacemaker patients, you can be sure that most of us DO have a pacer, and many have already had it for years. Some of us also had ablations, open-heart surgeries, and are on different meds.We are all here to support each other, ask or answer questions, just be there when someone needs to vent etc. Of course, with the experience you gained in 35 years with a pacer, you might know a little more than others, especially pacer newbies but otherwise you are one under many here.
I was just a bit staggered when I read your post because to me it sounds like you think you are the only pacer patient here and you came to save us all. Sorry, not offense intended, but that's how it sounds to me.
So, I would suggest you just get involved. Your input will surely be appreciated.
It's my tenth year with a pacer, got my first one when I was 18. I needed five pacer surgeries within these ten years (incl. epicardial leads), though, and I'm on my third pacer. Also had to have open-heart surgery and six ablation procedures in these ten years, and am on Amiodarone and Coumadin.
Best wishes
Inga

Just saw that you have posted a few times that you have a pacer for 30+ years, and that I already answered one of your posts. So, what are you waiting for?

Beat me

For the longest time I thought I was the youngest to get one. But you beat me by 4 years (probably a lot of other people did too). I was 7 when I got my first one. I am on my fourth one now. It will be 26 years this August when I got my first one. They have come along way since then. My current one was put in, in July of 2005 and i just recently found this sight. I was the first one in my family to get a ppm. Now I believe I have three other realatives that have one. So far I was the youngest in my family to get one.
Thank you

I am very grateful that you would want to help. There are a lot of us on here that value everyone's advice and really need the encouragement of someone who has been there before:)
Thank you too

I feel like you. I didnt start as young as you, but probably like many of the people here that have had a pacer more of their life than without, I was the only patient without gray hair at the cardiologist for a long time. At 42 my current doc says I am still one of the younger ones.
I felt there was someone out there that I could assure that it was all okay. I kept telling the docs that if any medical students wanted to talk to me or listen to my heart or anything dont hesitate to let me know. they never did.
Thanks for your post, I just recently found this site and I think the best thing to do is to just answer the questions people have. here on the sight.
why?

hi charles,
my daughter had a pacemaker placed 1 year ago, at age 2. in reading your post, my biggest question is why so many surgeries/replacements? my understanding was that her surgeries would be maybe every 5 years or so, depending on battery life. going on your 10th seems like a lot! did you have leads break or other unexpected problems? just wondering since this will also be part of our lives...
inga, also, same question...it seems like you also have had more than the expected amount of surgeries.
thanks!
