2 Weeks Today
Posted by Peacemaker on 2010-01-25 15:08

Today is my 2 week anniversary of having my pacemaker installed. It has been tough and I strongly disagree that my cardiologist insisted that I did not need pain medication. Over the counter meds did absolutely nothing for the pain. Maybe these docs need to have one installed in them (without leads) for about a month and see how it actually does feel. Other than that I am still here so thats all that matters right? I do have one concern though. My PM is set at 60 and has maintained that pace regularly since inserted except for yesterday. I felt nauseated, lightheaded, and my pulse never went below 80 all day. Naturally it was a Sunday and I didnt want to go to the emergency room. This morning I feel fine and my pulse is holding steady at 60 Perhaps this was just a stomach virus??

I am still riding the roller coaster of pain, emotions, and fears but I think I can see a little light at the end of the tunnel now.

Last week on my first post op visit while sitting there talking to my cardiologist I came to a total loss of words.. Finally I told her "I love you" and gave her a hug. How do you thank someone who has put you at a much less risk of a heart attack and will improve the quality of your life? I was totally against having this done and only after some heated arguments and her "telling it like it was" convinced me. I have no doubt she saved my life.

I can't wait to get back to my running, biking, and weights. I know my sweet little spouse will be glad too! God bess all you spouses out there. The fears and concerns for you can take its toll on you too! Stay strong!

I enjoy going to bed now because I can't wait until tommorrow!

it were me I'd call the cardio's office & report your problems from yesterday. You may be right it may have been a virus but what if it wasn't & it starts up again at night or on a weekend. Better be safe than sorry & I hope its nothing.

Sure hope you continue to feel better & welcome to the club,

Janet

I don't know how I would have managed without prescription painkillers. I got incisions and scars on both shoulders, due to failure to thread leads from the left side. Except for the implant site pains, I have been feeling well and energetic, and I think the biventricular PM has already increased my exercise capacity. Managing well now with OTC painkillers only, so I think I have emerged from the tunnel, at least temporarily. Today I am coming down with a virus of sorts though, sore throat, and I think I will need to take it easy a couple of days, before resuming the trend.

Best wishes!
