Puls at 80+
Posted by Sofia on 2010-01-26 20:37

Hi everyone,

I am a femal, 53 years old and got my pacemaker on December 8, 2009. For the last 5 weeks i have checked my blood pressure and my puls daily. The puls is always over 80. Is that normal or do i have to ask them to change my settings. I wake up several times during the night and have a hard time going back to sleep.

Any input is appreciated.

If it were me, I would ask my doctor why he chose a low setting of 80. Then I would tell him what was troubling me and then see if he thinks lowering it would serve my needs.

Hey,

I agree with Bill: you should ask your cardio why he chose the setting and tell him about your problems. I know some patients who have the low rate at 80 but those are patients who don't feel well with less. I guess most of us have 60 or 70, some just 50. In most pacers you have the possibility to set a night time minimum rate so that you can have 80 at daytime, and then for example 60 or 70 at night time.

Best wishes
Inga

What started my doctors on their witch hunt 2 years ago, was the fact that I was 44, EXCELLENT health, except for a hernia we thought.....I had a "resting" heart rate of about 120 bpm........so then the beta blockers start at .025mg, then .5mg, then........now I'm up to 40Mg continual release betablocker, and 10mg Altace for blood pressure, and now upto 6mg of Xanax a day (I usually only do 2 -4 mg per day depends on the day), and even with a dual chamber pacer with defib, and all the medications listed above, my resting heart rate is down to about 80-85 bpm.........and my doc's think that is great.......so go figure.....I get about 3 straight hours of sound sleep then up every hour.........I wake up every nite almost to the minute every hour......then nod back off, then back up......been that way since I started the betablockers and ace inhibitors 2 years ago....good luck......

Paced rate or natural rate?

Are you being paced at 80 or is that the rate of your heart beating on its own?

A pacemaker can help a slow heart beat faster but it does not work to slow down a too-fast heart.

Most pacemakers are set to 60 or 70 beats a minute, but you should ask your doc how yours is set and, if it's higher than that, why.

80 ok isnt it?

Hi thought the average heart rate was anything up to 100, could be that you feel a bit anxious when you wake and that raises your hr.
