Hi guys has anyone had all there leads removed?? i have to have 3 removed they have been in 7 years.I wanted to know how long the op would take i aslo need a new pacemaker and leads out in on the right side as the left side is no good anymore.. would love to hear from someone who has had it done i am worried sick.it will be my 4 op in 7 years i am 43 and just want to get on with my life.. many hanks..xx

 

 

Do you know exactly how they are removing your leads? There ard different ways to remove leads. Last year my dr just grapped the ventricular lead and it came out easier. It took time and work to get it out but it did come out.
My atrial lead would not budge so I got that done a little over a week ago. I went in for two different things a lead removal and a pm revision as mine was resting in a position I couldn't handle. My surgery took no time at all I was under for 45 min.
They planned a entire day just to play it safe and the Dr had no problem getting his little gadget under my lead they explained it to me like a little basket that they take past the lead and then the basket collects over it and pulls it up.
So depending on how much scar tissue there is and what not it could be very simple. I had no problems with the lead removal itself.
I am pretty sure you will be just fine as long as your Dr is confident in removing leads. Take it easy and I pray for a quick recovery.

sorry to hear you are having problems, i do understand how scarey it can all be. When I spoke to my cardiologist about leads he said that they didnt always have to be removed, that they often just put more in. Hope it goes well. HH

 

I have had a pacer since 1986. I have had faulty leads twice. So I have 3 leads in my left side and one on my right side. After the second pacer and lead revision they moved my pacer to the right side and rerouted the left lead from the battery pack on the right to the pacer on the left and down into the heart. When they look at my xray they say it looks like a metropolitan interchange. I am due to have a new pacer soon as mine is on battery. Leads look okay so far but don't know what they will do if I need a new lead. Left side is full; right side is almost full.....

 

I've had 7 pacemakers over the past 32 years and currently have 4 leads, which are coming out this Friday. My surgeon says 4 leads is pushing it. They interfere with each other and take up too much space. Ribby, take it slowly and give yourself time to heal and you'll be back to normal in just a few weeks.
