Hi folks.....Just a quick question for now. Has anyone worked with a wii game console? Thought I would hook one up today, but read warning about use with pace maker :(((( It is Saturday so cannot contact doc with question.
You know, it sometimes helps to have distractions.
Would appreciate any comments or advice.

I just got a Wii too but I didn't see any warning!!! Did I miss something?

I think we're ok as long as it's held about 9 inches away from the pacemakers. It seems to imply the remotes use Bluetooth technology similar to cell phones. So if you are using a blue tooth then I would guess the Wii at 9 inches away would be ok too.

But I am not doctor! Always ask first :-)

 

Hi... Took a little time to find it! Anyway, page 3 of the Operations Manual has warning: Radio Frequency Interference. Looks like it is okay with about nine inches space between remote and pace.
Will, for sure, post once I get an answer from the doc and I am also going to call Medtronics on Monday.

I just googled like crazy and it looks like everything that says it could interfere with it was printed from around 1996. Recent studies suggest the 9 inch rule.

Go for it....you can always return it and I doubt a manager would give a pacemaker patient a hard time! LOL

Speaking of which...I bought my system the other day at Best Buy and it was the first time my PM set off the security alert system at the door. Funny but a little embarrasing all at the same time.

I just said "It's my pacemaker...wanna see it?" Mr. Rent a Cop backed off right away...I think he was appauled! LOL

 

The only thing I don't do is push ups that would get my device right up against the balance board. Anything else goes!

I think iPhones and Wii's are in the same category. I have used a Wii in the past and have felt the interference if i get too close. Keep the remote or wii board 6-12inches away and it should be ok. The same goes for my iPhone. If i'm playing games, reading emails or using the net i have to keep it away from my chest as it can set me off. Interference is just that...if you're effected then move away and it should stop. But obviously if you're worried about it, or if it continues....just check with your Dr.

My kids got a Wii for Christmas. I've had no problem using it. My husband gets a little worried when I do the boxing because he doesn't want me to pull a lead. (I've had my pm for almost 4 yrs. so I think I'm fine. As it is a lead is already bent, has been since almost the beginning, so I don't think anything else will happen)

 

I contacted Heart Rhythm Patient Services at Medtronics and also called my hospital Pace Maker Center. Both agreed that it is okay to work with a wii remote...just keep it six to nine inches away from the pace maker.
