well i went to st thomas on 3 feb to have my upgrade and i hate to say it from the start i had complications.
They put some dye to see if my coronory sinus vien was open and it was so they had given me sadation and started to take my old pacemaker out that i had for 3 years and it was agony to the point were i told them to stop at that point they gave me morphine and more sadation and i fell asleep when i woke 2 hrs later they still hadnt put the 3rd lead in. the veins they found everytime they tried to pace the lead my diaphram would move as they up the volt such as strange experiance to feel a heartbeat in the stomach and see it move i nearly flew off the table. i then became so restless they gave me more morphine and sadation when i woke they had found a vein and were stiching me up i had been on that table for 4 hours they said they have never dealt with such a tricky procedure as mine complications from the very beginning.
I am now at home and my scar is raised how long does this take to go down they are disposabile sitches? i am also diabetic it is still very sore but he doctor has signed me off for 2 weeks but i asked for 3 and he said no but surely if i am not well or feel not ready to go back
they would still sign me off or would i have to go back regardless i thought he was a bit heartless as i had only just come out of hospital and feeling very upset and tired. i still get tearfel dont know why probalbly post traumatic stress.
now i have to go on warfarin and they want to do cardioversion in 6 weeks so fed! up!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so sorry you have had such a rough go of it. That was a terrible experience! Most pacemaker replacements work much better, I'm certainly sorry you had to go through this. I hope your recovery proves to be less eventful. Be careful while on the warfarin and may you heal quickly.
Cheers,
Pacergirl

wow....you had a rough go. But you made it!!!!!!! ^5.
Why the heck didn't they knock you out completely? I've had 5 surgeries on my pacemaker and every time I've been put totally to sleep. I guess each doctor has their own way of doing things.
When you say he signed you off for 2 weeks, do you mean the doctor said to take 2 weeks off of work? If so, it is just my opinion that that is not long enough. Only YOU will know how long you will need before returning to your regular activities and/or work.
Being tired, upset and tearful is completely normal. You just went thru a complicated surgery. It will take time to put all of this behind you both physically and mentally.
Just remember to get plenty of rest, it will help in the long run. Take naps whenever you can. And remember we are all here for you.
Take care,
Pookie
