Woke up to 2 ft. of snow (like Gary) here in the Pittsburgh area. We were only supposed to get about 8 inches, so this was a surprise. I love being out in in and call me nuts, but I LOVE shoveling! I had my ICD implanted on 1/20/10 and the Dr. said my days of shoveling are over. BooHoo. So I sit here & watch my hubby doing it instead. I'll probably curl up with a good Harlan Coben book for most of the day and make home-made chicken noodle soup later. Enjoy the day everyone.

Shoveled three times in Cincinnati area already - around 7 inches of snow. Kids are playing some Wii after playing outside...

GMan wondered how you have been doing - glad to hear things are going well.

It's even crummy in Southern California - rainy, windy, and chilly. Just a day made for enjoying the indoors. We went bowling earlier, and now I'm hunkering down with a cappuccino and Girl Scout cookies!

running 6 directions, typical weekend for us

It's a perfect Fl winter day here- low 70's, breezy and sunny. I've been enjoying being able to drive again! I was juggling band assessments for my oldest and her best friend 30 miles away, and girl scout cookie sales for my youngest down the street. She got a superior on her solo she did this morning, the highest grade! We left before they posted the scores for the duet the two of them did this afternoon. We're down to the last 20 cases of cookies, they should be gone by tomorrow, fingers crossed. Now we're chilling, deciding if I feel like cooking or going out for dinner.

Wet day

Raining heavily again here in Hemet, CA all day and will be doing same through Sunday morning. No snow....and I'll leave that right there! But it is snowing in the mountains above us and in the Big Bear Mtns. nearby, if that counts?? We can drive up from our home at the east end of the San Jacinto Valley and be "in" snow in about 20 minutes....but we don't.
Am doing some inside projects because with rain I don't ride with my road biking friends. Will need to put the bike on the indoor trainer to get my exercise.
Still trying to work out how to get rid of the "pre-beats" I''ve been having. Actually, the heart just stops for a beat then beats a few, the stops, then a few more, then mostly beats normally for awhile, then does it again. Have been doing this off and on since around November 20 which was about 10 days after seeing the doctor for a checkup. Have been taking more and more Magnesium (400mgs/day) and that helps alot. Tried adding Calcium but I think it got worse. Vit/Min Supplement has NO iron so am trying to eat stuff with iron or I might buy some with iron. (This is getting long)
Also, B6 seems to help. I think the two blood pressure meds I take don't help this. Got to go see the doc but I hate to see them because they forget what / who I am so have to explain and they make a quick decision then leave the room. So I feel okay right now and will get up and do something and move and I feel fine.
The end. Thanks for asking, Gary :)

A cold blustery day

I'm just getting back from a late afternoon walk with the dog. She did neighborhood cat checks and squirrel surveillance then we went to the park. First time we've been out of the house today because I worked 18 hours yesterday and slept half of today. Talked to an AT&T telemarketer (no I'm not switching cable providers on Sat. at 5 pm), both my boys and my grandson in California. Too tired to cook or go out so may have the leftover dinner I didn't have time to eat at work last night. Planning to watch British comedies on PBS then go back to bed by 10 o'clock. Getting up early to go to communion and church and then have lunch with my sister who is in town from California. Lenora

TEXAS ~ ~

They say in Texas, if you don't like the weather, stay around awhile, it will change.

Our normal temps this time of year is 50 lows & 60/70 highs, dry, warm, nice Texas weather. Well, let me whine a lil'. For weeks on end, seems like months, it has rained and been soooo cold (to us Texans). The cold is like 30's in the lows & 30/40's in the highs, cloudy, cold and wet. We sure did need the rain, though, as we were in a huge, long, bad drought. The Lake Travis area, which is a chain of lakes in Central Texas was so low, boats could not even launch from public boat ramps due to "no water/low water" this past summer. Lake Travis is also our source for human water use. We had been rationed to only water o/s a certain day, certain times, etc. Around the Highland Lakes, to include Lake Travis, we are finally getting back to normal. Boat docks & lake clubs/restaurants are not high & dry from customers anymore ~ let the brew flow again and bring on the wings, nachos and chips/hot sauce, oh & that good ol' sweet iced tea.

What I would like to ask/know from you northern USA/countries is how do any of you heat your homes? Down here, a lot of people have electric central heat/air. I use two propane gas floor heaters to heat the small areas I use in the daytime during the winter (thank God for electric blankets). Some people just have wood heaters/fireplaces. Also, what keeps your water pipes in the house & o/s from freezing/breaking/ busting like they do here? The coldest this winter was a couple of days of mid-teens as the low and the high was like 30 degrees. The hardware/home repair stores were sold out of all their plumbing "stuff" for any repairs. Hundreds of people "lost" all their pipes, etc. to the Texas freeze. We try to insulate o/s pipes w/purchased insulation to fit pipes or wrap them in old cloth materials, etc., but they still freeze up. We also "drip"/"run" our water to keep it from freezing. What do the people do who live in the frigid northern USA & other freezing, cold countries?

Oh, I AM the long, windy person, THE original question was what are we doing?

I made a soup/stew using a piece of t-bone steak/bone leftover, cleaning my fridge/freezer of all veggies/liquids, using produce needing to be used, ie, onions, mushrooms, carrots, etc. In Texas, we make the REAL homemade chili w/o any tomatoe products added (the hotter the better), Taco Soup, Tortilla Soup and all type of southern casseroles and Tex-Mex. foods. Warm/delicious and ummm soooo good & fattening ~ ~

Have fun with your snow; I freeze just looking at pics. from the northern USA. Carolyn G. in TEXAS ( :

Oh yeah, tomorrow the Super Bowl ~ Guacamole dip, chili conqueso dip w/lots of added Jalepeno peppers made w/fried ground seasoned sausage, Rotel tomatoes, Velveeta cheese & added Jalapeno peppers!

We got lucky

all the snow went to the south of Northern Indiana, we got maybe and inch or so glad of that the wind was blowing about 15 to 20 mph so what little we did get drifted, if we would have gotten anymore I probably would have been sitting at home waiting for the wind to stop so I could run the snow blower. But went with my soninlaw and sat in his ice house and caught fish. The walk out to the lake walking right into the wind took me a while stopped about 20 times me and the cold dont get along so well anymore. Caught a few keepers for lunch, will go out in morning with my fishing buddy sunday. Wind has laid down today, but colllllddd. So the trek will be slow with lots of stops but thats ok. I have a great understanding friend, who thinks hes my mother.lol.

Knitting in Oklahoma

I am on my 23rd set of knitted hats & scarfs to donate. I love being able to do this during the winter months. We have had our share of frigid air, ice, sleet, & snow this year. The last of the recent 7 to 8 in snow has just melted & more is on its way tonight. I live on the Lake of the Ozarks ( Grand Lake ).....a beautiful area the year around, yet, very hard to navigate in the snow & ice,,so,,we just get prepared and hunker down...enjoy the many variety of birds that feed in our feeders & nest in our " bird-house " garden...just livin' & lovin' life ! Best wishes to all, celone
