Chest X-Ray
Posted by donb on 2010-02-07 13:57

I thought I would like to have a question answered by some one about chest X-Rays of PM & leads. A number of years ago I had a routine chest X-Ray and caught just a glimse of my X-Ray as the nurse walked by. I asked her if I could see it as I already had irritation started around my PM pouch.

Now, this particular test was not for checking PM positioning or leads. The nurse was happy to let me do a thorough look at the X-ray. The definition was excelllant, looked good to me, too good.
As being in electronics all my life, I couldn't believe seeing every circuit component on the circuit board inside the PM???? This was on my 3rd Medtronic Enrthym PM. How could one get this through a Titanium enclosure?? It has bugged me as this was the PM that gave me fits and finally erroded. Though Smitty or Electric Frank would find this one interesting!! Thank You! donb

I was surprised when I saw the same thing. It went down like a lead balloon when I joked and said look:
"It says, made in Taiwan."

I'm sure Smitty or EF can help you they are great guys.

Cheers from Aus.

Thank You

I also forgot to mention the X-Rays were so sharp that I could identify the markings on the components individually Thanks! donb

Hey Donb,

Got way behind on my reading and just saw your message. I have no idea how a Xray could penetrate a PM case. I have a couple of electronic whizzes for sons and I'll be asking them "how" on this.

Smitty

Thanks Smitty!

I have been thinking a lot about why my PM eroded a year ago. Alergy tests showed soft plastics were positive. I think I just recently tosed my Medtronic I.D. as I now have a St. Jude PM. As this Medtronic unit was only 2 years implant, my 3rd Medtronic, and the only one that irritated my pouch.

As I do Cardiac Rehab I'm mainly concerned about arm workouts as for my newest right chest implant. I have been very carefull and my site is 100%. I now realize that I should have gotten that X-Ray at the time. It really bugged me at the time as I thought all PM generators were encased in Titanium. I know that the top lead terminal are molded plastic and that is where mine started bugging with lots of scar tissue and finally eroded after 2 years.

Well, had an appointment with my Cardiologist the other day and showed him the rough scar tissue left after 2 reconstruction surgeries. He said, "Dont look, Dont touch" and leave well enough alone". Ya, sure!!! donb
