Hi Patsy... I get tired too by the end of the day
especially if we have gone shopping and done alot of walking.. I got my PM on 10/19/2009... and I am just starting to come around too.. except I have some achey leg problems....my shoulder is still numb and the Dr said it has some nerve damage and may be that way for quite sometime.. my hubby helps me too with the laundry and every day stuff...becuz our washer and dryer is in the basement too.. I am 65 and both my hubby and me are retired folks...from reading the posts on here.. it looks like it takes awhile for us to come back from this... but I have to say.. most the time I forget its there...then I am reminded by my arm not functioning like it should...My implaint was a emergency after I fainted and ended up in the ER...so this is all new to me too.... we will get better.....
I don't know if you can shovel or not? we live on the coast of washington so we don't get snow often
just rain and sunshine :)
sorry to ramble on :)

Too Tired

Hello Patsy

If you are more tired at the end of a day since you got your pacemaker than you did before you got the pacemaker, then I think you need a doctor that will discuss with you the facts of life after getting a pacemaker. I'm of the opinion that getting a pacemaker may or may not make us feel better, but under so circumstances should it make us feel worse. Of course whether you feel better or not can also be dependant on why you got the PM, but again regardless of why you got it you should not feel worse.

For a pacemaker to make us feel better the settings have to be what we really need, Therein may be the ringer. We have far more people implanting pacemakers and/or making the settings changes than we have people that know enough about pacemakers to give us optimum results.

So if I may suggest it, think about how you feel now versus how you felt before you got your pacemaker and if you are certain that you feel worse, then find a doctor that will discuss the issue with you, even if it means trying to find a new doctor. Now, I'm not saying you do not feel worse, what I'm trying to convey is you will probably need to give some specifics about your feelings now and before the PM. A good source of help for this is probably your husband because while he may not have said much, I'm sure he has noticed the difference in you now compared to before the PM.

One final thought, you may want to postpone the doctor visit for a few weeks, or until there is no more snow to shovel. Or you can come to Central Texas. We may get rain up to our wah-hoo, but snow is extremely rare.

Good luck,

Smitty

About the shoveling -- I am in PA and we got 24 inches over the weekend, and another 10 expected on Wednesday. I shoveled. In fact, shoveling is the only winter "sport" I really like to do!

I got my ICD in November and was told no heavy lifting - over 25 pounds - for 6 weeks post procedure. After that I could resume normal activity.

I'd check with your doctor. Also about the lack of energy. I only have an ICD to "zap" me if my heart decides to go into sudden cardiac arrest.

I have suffered from tiredness since my pm. 6 years ago I am 67,
As I said to my sp I did not expect the fountain of youth to be implanted at the same time. They altered my settings after a while and these have stayed the same since.

Recently I questioned the BP medication. I was taken off one and in a week no swollen left leg and I feel heaps better. When we went to see the hospital for my checkup I forgot to take my med Lexapro with me. Well I did not go back to taking it. Another chemical off my list.

Often we need to take time to think about ourselves and question everything. My family tend to make too many demands on me and my wants and needs get shoved on the back burner. This week I went to town and let them know how I felt. It did them good and reminded them that I need some TLC too.

It has been a shock "Mum says No" but it will do them good. Concentrate on yourself. You deserve it. My shoulder still hurts after 6 years. No one can give me a sensible answer.

It takes us longer to get over thihgs than the medical profession will have you believe. Do it your way. Things will get better it is a big adjustment. I wish you all the best.

10/09 was my magic month for the energizer bunny to be implanted. 100% ablation/2 leads/setting on 80. I am sedentary as far as actual exercise due to "Arthur" in my knees and legs being so tired now. I have been on BP meds for years and 1 cholesterol med for years.

My EP cardio. Dr. asked PRE-PM if I was tired, faint, short of breath, etc. and I said, no. Social Security has the audacity to say I am 65, even tho I tried to tell them I felt 40! That was pre-PM. I go to all athletic events and Boy Scout events, etc. for my Grandboys and do all my own shopping, driving, etc.

After PM, I am tired, once in awhile a lil' lite headed and do not know why. I have short breath once in awhile after doing "nuttin" ~ Have no clue why.

Please post again when you find any information.

Take Care, Carolyn G. in TEXAS ( :
