Is it normal to be short of breath after having a pacemaker/defib
implanted.

I have trouble climbing stairs in particular but am now having shortness walking fairly short distances.

This is very troubling

Not unless you were having this problem before you got the pacemaker/defibrillator. The device should not cause SOB, and the device does not stop SOB for all people that get one.

My guess is if the SOB has started since you got the PM/Defib the settings may need to be changed and you will need to give the Dr a call.

 

Is this new since you got it? It may be that your settings need to be tweaked. If it's very new (less than a month) you might also want to check to make sure the leads are in place.

If you were sob before you got it, then changing the settings may or may not help. As JB said, sometimes the device doesn't fix all your problems.

 

they had to adjust mine four times before they got it set right, just make sure you tell doc about it, theyll get you fixed up.

I have had the same thing and no one knows why. I have had the pacemaker adjusted a number of times and I still have SOB. Just walking on level ground into work every morning and when I leave the same thing. Sometimes I can even talk I'm so winded. I didn't have this before the pacemaker. I have had chest xrays,ultrasounds of the heart all showed nothing. If I ever find out what this is I'll let you know
