I just received my pacemaker 2 days ago. I started a very intense exercise program back in November with a private trainer. I was overweight and out of shape and had not felt good for a very long time. I was determined to feel better. I lost 20 inches and was feeling much better but still having very irregular heart rates and some days could hardly do anything. I was diagnosed with sick sinus syndrome and a pacemaker was recommended. Honestly, my biggest hesitation was the fact that I would miss workout and get behind. I am so concerned about getting back in the gym and not going backwards. How soon after your surgery did you get back in the groove?

You sound just like me! My pacemaker was Feb. 23. My doctor had me on driving restriction for 10 days, until the first checkup. And for 5 weeks no reaching, pulling, pushing, carrying over 5 lbs, no pool or hot tub or bath for 5 weeks (shower after 4 days), no left arm over head for 5 weeks. At the 10 day checkup, he said walking is the best exercise and to do that as I am able. Those other restrictions probably address gym. You need to ask your doctor and do what he says regarding the gym because the last thing you want to do is have a repair job.

I had irregular heart rates. The holter showed 50 and below. And after the pacemaker, it showed the problem is sinus node also.

Good luck.

Welcom msherlin

I got my Pacemaker on 1/25. I had my 1st check up at 6 weeks, which was 3/16. I got my clearance to do whatever I wanted. Your really HAVE to keep that arm down for 6 weeks to make sure the leads are in place. This limits what you can do in the gym. I have a wii fit and I walked and did the step exercises two days after the implant. Last night, for the first time, I did yoga and strength and stretching and all. It was good to get back to doing some things. I did notice that I lost some muscle on the right side (that is where my PM is), but I know it will come back soon. And I was a little stiff this morning, but this too will pass.
The main thing is to allow yourself time to heal completely. Everyone is different, but it is better to heal a couple extra weeks than to have any complications.
Good luck!
