Breastfeeding with pacemaker under breast?
Posted by Jennifer1986 on 2010-06-13 14:54

Hello

I had my pacemaker fitted 11 days ago, I am currently 25 weeks pregnant. The pacemaker has been placed under my left breast and I am now wordering if I will be able to breast feed on my left hand side once my daughter is born or not?

Has anyone else had there pacemaker placed under their breast so it can't be seen and then gone on to breast feed?

Many thanks

Jen

There would be nothing to preclude you from breast feeding on that side.

You are okay

You will just need to make sure your physician is okay with it. You should be just fine. Unless you have a large healthy baby over about 25lbs, god forbid you do, you'll be fine.

If you should need any other support let us know. Keep in touch we are here for you.

I had my pm buried under the breast to hide it. It's put in from the side and tunneled under so that it's completely buried behind breast tissue. I nursed both of my babies without any problems, milk production was normal and it did not hurt. I nursed the first until I got pg again and my second until she turned one. I had my pm for two years before I got pg the first time so I had longer to heal than you, but you should be fine. I never had residual soreness after surgery last more than 8-10 weeks so you have plenty of time to heal.

I'm on my 4th pm and my babies are 12 and 13 now. :o)

Good luck to you! If you have any other questions, please let us know.
