So I am a Music Education major studying to hopefully become a junior high/high school band director and I was wondering how does the surgery affect your teaching during the recovery period.

Most people take a few days to a week or two off work, depending on the type of work they do. By the end of the first week most of us feel pretty good and are back to normal but just babying the sore side. No lifting for the first 6 weeks and no raising the left arm (assuming your device is on the left) for 6 weeks also. Restrictions on driving vary. If you're still a student, carrying your books will probably be the main issue, I think. If you're in the classroom, raising the arm to direct will have to be avoided until you heal. Once you heal, anything goes!

not a problem
