Dam Sites
Posted by 1sassygal on 2010-07-03 11:17

I was wondering if anyone knew the exact distance to keep from a dam site? I wanted to go to Pickwick Dam in TN./MS. for the holiday but have yet to get an answer. I called my pacer rep and all she could tell me was if I start to fell funny just back away. I hate to drive the distance to go camping and have to turn around and come back home. I have also tried to find info on internet and none seems to give the distance.

thanks for any input you can give me.

Unless you're touring the facility and right near the generator, you shouldn't have any problems. You should be fine just camping nearby.

I believe Tracy is right. I would be interested to find out if you hear for sure. I am planning on a trip to Vegas and may go see the new bridge at Hoover Dam. If you could please let me know I would appreciate it. I will see what I can find out . What type of pacemaker do you have. You can respond to my e-mail if you would like. revchuck@mindspring.com

Thanks

Visiting Hoover Dam

General Information for visiting the Hoover Dam

The Hoover Dam Visitor's Center is open every day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas. The hours of operation are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

During the busy summer season, June through August, early reservations are recommended for the guided tours. Parking may also be a problem; therefore it is recommended that you use transportation other than a private vehicle for traveling to the dam. Motorists can expect periodic delays on Highway 93 approaching Hoover Dam because of construction associated with the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge project. (Information about the project is available at http://www.hooverdamtourcompany.com/www.hooverdambypass.org.) Normally, traffic at Hoover Dam is heaviest between the hours of 10 AM and 6 PM. Motorists should also anticipate heavy traffic during weekends and holidays. Also, extremely heavy traffic can be encountered at the beginning and end of holiday periods. To see everything at the dam it is recommend visitors arrive by 4:00 PM Pedestrians are prohibited from the top of the dam during hours of darkness.

NOTE: The tours should NOT be taken by anyone who suffers from claustrophobia or those with a pacemaker or defibrillators. The tour will be in confined spaces and around generators emitting electromagnetic frequencies.

Hoover Dam is located 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas on US Highway 93.

Directions to the dam from Las Vegas:
Go southeast on Interstate 515 which eventually will turn into US Highway 93. Highway 93 will take you to the Hoover Dam.

Pets are not allowed anywhere on the site.
