I'm going to India in August for a week for work. I don't see why there would be a problem, but has anybody else on here gone and were there any issues with regards to your PM (i.e. doctor care over there)? I had my last implant a couple years ago and have around seven or so more years left on this one so I don't forsee any complications with the battery. However, my dad and grandad has expressed concerns. Any info would be appreciated.

India and Pacemakers

According to an article I read sometime ago there are about 20,000 pacemakers are implanted in India each year. That number is expected to increase considerably within the next year or so as pacemakers manufactured by an Indian company will be on the market.
Other stories I have seen on this subject is that India is one of the best places in the world to get a pacemaker because of cost and accommodations for the patient.

the only problem i have heard of not related to pacemakers is the cuisine and hygiene. my husband travelled there twice and both times became very ill with gastro problems form the bacteria in the food. he was in a supposedly good hotel but not american candian standards. we have heard of people from north america taking canned salmon and tuna and spam with them. that is about all i have to offer..good luck jessie

Same as Jessie. My company does business with an Indian firm and they have traveled there often. They always carried food in the suitcase. Any sort of cold, virus or bug completely takes me out of the game and could put me in the hospital so I'm super cautious now to things I would have ignored a year ago.

Thanks guys. I heard about the food, but I also heard they have McDonald's and stuff over there now. Maybe I'll get some MRE's to take with me. Or some canned foods... We will see.
