Some of you may have heard that former US Vice President Dick Cheney had an LVAD implanted due to the natural progression of his heart disease. For those of us considering that option, it'll be interesting to watch his recovery.

Regardless of your politics, I'm sure we all wish him the best in his recovery.

Anyone wanting to know what an LVAD is, left ventricular assist device, there are Google ads on this site that you can select which explain the device and application in detail. It's the next step after a CRT or Bi-Ventricular ICD.

I'm interested to see how he fairs as well, Patch. I didn't know about this. Thanks for letting us know.
I could care less about the politics, but still am curious about his condition and how he does. Haven't known too many cases of this LVAD. Always has seemed kind of scary to me.....we'll see how he does. Hoping he doesn't get special treatment, even though we know that's probably "a given". Wonder how much this is costing him? LOL.

Hope he does well

As one who has seen more death then I care to say, I never wish bad upon anyone.
My wife says,"God does not like dirty."
I truly wish him my best as it might help others as CNN said it was new here in the USA.

Seen it

Yeah, I read up on it,........it is only a temporary fix while he waits for a heart transplant.......the average life span while on a LVAD only adds from 3 - 10 months, while waiting for a transplant.......Must be nice to be able to get a transplant.......or even be considered for one......I do not qualify for a transplant so anytime from now up to about 10 years is it for me.....and I'm only 47.......How can I stay positive knowing I have a oneway ticket to hell in less than 10 years?

Future Transplant for Cheney?

It's odd that the news on Cheney didn't mention that this is a temp fix while awaiting heart transplant. Seems that would have been news worthy. Zombie, I'm 58 but not eligible for transplant either. I have DCM with low numbers that, in spite of pm/defib and meds have not improved at all. Sometimes staying positive is hard but as my cardiologist said, "only God knows how long we have." I don't know whether I have tomorrow or as he feels 2 years...or maybe 10. I don't however, consider this a one-way ticket to hell. I consider it an opportunity to take what time I have and to say all the things I thought I had decades to say to those I love; to laugh with them and to build as many memories as possible. After initially facing the fact that my life will be shortened, I didn't have a bucket list that included a mountain climb or traveling to exotic places. My thoughts were my family. I feel worse for them than myself. When it's my time, whether 1, 2, 10 or 20 years from now, I know I won't be in hell and I don't intend to waste a single day in hell. Things can change. 10 years ago, the procedures and medications we have now weren't available. You might just get a miracle. Prayers and support are being sent to you.

Thanks Cruz.....

See you've already outlived my expected life span ( which is 53-55 years old, and you have reasons to live, loving family, kids, friends......I've lived life 10 times faster and done more than 99% of the population, and I have nothing left I want to do, except one more thing.......I want to build a $2 -3 million dollar no -kill animal shelter for people like us, who have pets and pass away, so the pets don't have to go to a humane society and be put down just because the owner passed away......and it could also double as a Hurricanne shelter for pets....and I already told you, the last time I flatlined, God said I wasn't welcome in heave , because I'd cause too much trouble, and Satan said I'm not allowed there either, he was afraid I'd take his job.........hence -zombie......doomed to walk the earth as the living dead.........
