Hello,
Does anyone know if you can use a hand held metal detector if you have a pacemaker? I was offered a job at a school that uses them. The job sounds great but now I am very worried.
Thanks,
CBattery

Do you mean you use it on others or school security use it on you? They can be used on us, but not anywhere near the device.

I am the one with the pacemaker and I am also the one using metal detector. So I am asking about a person with a pacemaker holding and using the metal detector.

Holding it is going to get it close to your device regularly unless you're really careful. I would call the manufacturer and see what they have to say. How much do you pace? The wand isn't going to damage it but it may interfere. Some models are more insulated and less subject to interference than others.
two minds thinking the same way

Thanks TraceyE, I was thinking the same way, but could not find anything online. Earlier I called the school and talked with the Director. I will not need to use the wand, because of the risk. If and when I start I will need to educate the staff on my pacemaker and why it is important that they are turned off when they are stored. Guess I need to get my old pacemaker out so they can see what it lookks like.
