INTERESTING ???

Did you get one of these? If not you may find it interesting.

As a person with an implanted Medtronic pacemaker we'd like to make you aware of a series of educational events in cities across the country on MRI and pacemaker safety, called "A Look Within: What to Know, What to Do, What to Ask," being held by the National Council on Aging (NCOA). As you may know, it is currently not recommended that people with pacemakers get an MRI. The next event is scheduled for Wednesday, August 25 in Dallas.

If you are a person with a pacemaker of any age, and you have been told by your doctor that you need an MRI scan, but were unable to have one because of your implanted pacemaker, your story can help to educate others. If you are comfortable sharing your personal experience, please contact Ashley DiLeo, a communications consultant for the events, by email at Ashley.Dileo@bm.com or by calling 202-530-4560.

About NCOA: The National Council on Aging is a nonprofit service and advocacy organization headquartered in Washington, DC. NCOA is a national voice for older Americans--especially those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged--and the community organizations that serve them. It brings together nonprofit organizations, businesses, and government to develop creative solutions that improve the lives of all older adults. NCOA works with thousands of organizations across the country to help older adults find jobs and benefits, improve their health, live independently, and remain active in their communities. I have a Medtronic but didn't get anything on the event. Could be it's only sent to people in specific areas where the events will be held. I'm in GA.

Hello Cruz,

I’m sure the reason I got this is that Medtronic says I have signed up to receive news and information from them. I don’t recall doing so, but I don’t doubt that I did it. They say these events are being held across the country by the National Council on Aging (NCOA) and one is scheduled for Dallas on the 25th. It makes sense that they send me a notice for this one, since I live just a few hours drive from Dallas, but I have other things I must do that day and I can’t make it.

I would suggest that to find out if one is going to be in your neck of the woods that you contact by Ashley.Dileo@bm.com or call 202-530-4560. When things settle down a little around here I plan to contact them to see there is going to another one close by.

I plan to contact them for two reasons. One is I would like to see what progress is being made by Medtronic in pacemakers that can handle an MRI I would like to know who is this NCOA.

It does make you go hmmmm.....I had to take a disability retirement from work, and I haven't signed up for anything at all in connection with it, but since then I receive all kinds of notices and invitations from groups catering to the OLD person I've apparently become. I'm 58, and I was always active, healthy and never even get asked if I would like the "senior discount." Suddenly, I'm getting all the invitations, solicitations and such from weird groups. It's funny too that one of the frustrations with DCM is that we "look" very healthy but I'm sure my mail carrier must think I'm hiding some old person in my home. I even get invitations that offer transportation, as if I can't even drive myself. What's up with that?????
