Hi does anyone here suffer from the condition heart failure? Have you had a pacemaker fitted and taking heart medication at the same time...or do you no longer have to take medicine once implanted with a pacemaker?
Thank you,
Angel.

I have DCM (dialated cardiomyopathy). I had defib/pm implant in Feb 2010. I will continue to be on the meds for the rest of my life. The defib is my "safety net" and the PM is to help my weak heart pump more efficiently. It doesn't replace the meds.

After having my first PM/Defib fitted in 2001, my cardiomyopathy condition deteriorated to level 3 heart failure. I was fitted with a Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Pacemaker/Defib in Dec 2008, with almost immediate improvement in EF and general heart functioning, including a significant decrease in arrythmias and a wonderful increase in my quality of life.
I still maintain my medication regime as my EP feels that between the CRT device and my meds,my heart is being well managed. The pacemaker has not replaced my medication but, together, they form my management programme.Take care
Neville
