Leads

Sorry, your post is a bit vague. I'll try to address in general.
You didn't mention whether this is a recall for manufacturing defects or age related degradation.

Guidant had a recall, as has Medtronics and St Judes awhile back for defective leads. I haven't really heard much recently. Bear in mind the manufacturer of your leads isn't necessarily the same as the device. One manufacturer's lead can work on another manufacturer's device.

Leads do deteriorate with age and use, which is to be expected, and must be replaced periodically. In fact Tracey E recently had a lead replacement along with a new generator. How long they last is a big variable and difficult to predict. Most do seem to last beyond the 10 year range but some require replacement much sooner.

Additionally, there are instances where the leads arfe damaged during implant and must be replaced. Unfortunately, they don't always catch the damage until the implant is completed and may have to go in after the fact to effect repairs.

Finally, some damage can be overcome by adjusting the voltages on the device, and can frequently operate fine for years before having to be replaced.

Hope this touches on your question
