Age 74 and last Feb. went to the ER gasping for breath. Acute congestive heart failure. Ejection fraction 15%, qrs >120. Ended up with a stent, a Boston Scientific CRT-D, and more than enough meds. Was really blind sided by the whole thing as I had not been much for doctoring for at least 30 years. Heart meds affected my vision. New glasses help. You all write how much better you are with your pacemakers. Since I was never the least bit sick until very suddenly, I can't say that. However, I completed Cardiac Rehab , adopted a heart healthy diet, now exercise regularly, etc. For me, the hardest thing was giving up a 50 year cigarette habit. Still is, and that was 6 months ago. It's been good to read about other people's experiences. me2

I feel your pain about the smokes, i had to give up my 35 year habit, start diet and exercise program myself. quite a change but must admit i do feel better. Now if i could just come to grips with my love for beer i would have it made.
Stick with it, it is doable i wish you the best.

You can do it. All you need is a good enough reason. Mine continues to be a clear memory of what it feels like first trying to breath, and then trying to simply give up. me2
Smoked for 10 years

Started when I was 18 and quit at 28. I'm now 72
I just decided one day to quit....for the day. One day became two..then months and years. It was very difficult the first 3 weeks or so.
I had cigarettes at work, in my car and at home so if I got panicky I could smoke one. I wound up throwing them all away.
I know people that have quit for 20-30 years and still crave a cigarette.
