I'm sure he'll be fine. This site and others provide a lot of information. Remember, don't be afraid of asking his doctor(s) questions.

To borrow a saying from Spock (Star Trek)...I hope your son "Lives long and prospers." God bless him.

Thanks

Still trying to learn as much as I can. Seems to be alot of older people on this site that have had there pacemakers since a child and doing very well, which is very comforting. Anybody here from Texas? We go to Childrens Hospital in Dallas and use William Scott. My son has a Medtronic epicardial pacemaker.

Lots of people on here who are very knowledgable so its worth popping in from time to time. they think my 3rd degree was from birth, finally picked it up when i was 55. i used to get blue legs and lips all my life and could never ever get warm, used to lie in bed so cold i never got good sleep. glad they picked it up at a young age for him. i always struggled with my weight, i got breathless walking up hills, so hopefully he will lead a good life. i know its hard being a mum of a sick child, i was a mum of a child who had loads of ops, she is all grown up now and is fine, so try to enjoy him and not worry too much.

hi! just wanted to introduce myself to pwallison...i am also a member on heartblockkids. my daughter is 4, and was diagnosed with 3rd degree heartblock at her 2month checkup. she has an epicardial medtronic pacemaker that was placed when she was 2. how long has your son been placed? we've had good luck with it so far. although, as i'm sure you know, us moms always worry : )

We have had no problems with pacer so far, but worry constantly about him being to ruff and breaking his leads. Him having his surgery and being in ICU afterwards was the hardest day of my life and really dread when we have to do it again. So hopefully we will make it many years before the battery runs down and has to be replaced and hopefully never any broken leads. And the other thing that drives you nuts is wondering how he got the heartblock at age 3. I personally don't think it was congenital.

Son paced at 4days

my son had his first pm at 4days old, his second one just after he turned 2. He is 4.5yrs old now and doing great. You may never know how or why your son ended up with heartblock. I found out at 20.5 weeks pregnant that my sons electrical current was destroyed, they told me I had lopus, I don't but I do carry the anti_ro antibody causing the attack to his heart. I don't know why I have this I had two healthy girls before him and 1 healthy boy after him. Some questions just cant be answered just be thankful that that is ALL he has and he will lead a normal healthy life. He may not get to play hockey, or do summersaults over the monkeybars, but what parent wants there kid to get there teeth knocked out in a hockey fight anyways? LOL The days leading up to surgeries and the wekks afterwards will be hard, but you will spoil him rotten, give him whatever he wants in fear of him hurtting himself in a tantrum, and you will get thru it. But watch out, its hard to break the habits when they are feeiling better. My little guy ruled the roost after his 2nd year surgery, and Im still fighting for the power!
