Hi Sandy
This is a question that has come up many times, if you use the search on the topleft (in grey) you will be able to follow previous threads.

No you may not go in a tanning bed if u have a pacemaker. There are electric currents in a tanning bed and that could create problems for the pacemaker

Hello,
I just read your posting and I have to say, I've had my pacemaker close to seven years now and never once has tanning effected it. I go tanning during the winter to keep a good skin color. It shouldn't bother you at all. You should first consult a doctor or call your pacemaker company and ask them if it's okay. I'm sure you'll be tanning real soon.:0) Take care and God bless you dear.

and have never had a problem.I tanned before and I continued to tan after. I have had my PM for only a year .But I have never had an episode happen upon entering the bed or leaving.
Good luck with whichevr you choose,
I would say be careful with tanning as well.As there is a danger in it if you go too far. Watch your skin and as with anything , do it responsibly.
That's my sermon for the day, LOL.

Hi Sandy, I just got my pm in January and it was one of the 1st things I asked, my dr. said no problem, but I did ask the tanning place. They said the beds were fine, but the stand up were not. I haven't had any problems.
Good Luck,
Amy

One more thought...check your meds. I take one that restricts me from extended exposure to the sun and to tanning beds. I can't remember which one off the top of my head.

Hi Sandy
I have had my pm for one year and I am l00% dependent. I have regularly tanned in a stand up tanning booth for a maximum of 10 minutes per time. I always cover my pacemaker with a makeshift bandage and I called my manufacturer and they said it would be ok. I was real skeptical at first but have had no problems. Now that summer is here I will be laying in the sun outside. I always am pretty cautious though about exposure if the sun is real hot I make sure it is covered. Nice to try and live normal even if we will never be "normal" again. Best wishes. DD

We have an uproar here in Australia regarding tanning beds. They are considered to be too harmful for some people and cause skin cancer. Be careful.

I am 100% tanning and hot tub dependent so I've never had a choice. (:
Seriously, the only tanning bed that could remotely cause a problem would be a very old type that used a large transformer ballast. I haven't seen one in years so I don't think that is a problem.
