1st Vacation Since Inplant
Posted by amalfi122 on 2008-04-21 17:29

Hi All: I'm a Newbie here! I am planning my 1st vacation since inplant (Nov 2007). A friend and I are going to Disney Orlando and was wondering what restrictions, if any, I will have? I have a pacemaker for "on demand" purposes only. Has never gone off since it was done. I am 43 years old, female and not really big on coaster rides, but I do love the water coasters and the "small world" type rides. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you.

I'd be careful of wether any of the "safty bars" hit on the chest where the pacemaker is.

Check with doc???

Hello,

I first of all want to tell you to have a great time on your vacation! But before you go on any thrill rides I would check with your doctor first. He/she knows your condition and can give you a straight answer. If you don't want to go in for an appt. give their office a call and ask to speak to his/her nurse and ask. They should call you back with an answer!

Have fun.

I received my pm in Oct 2007 and took my children on a 4 day roller coaster run in Tampa and Orlando right after Christmas. I rode every coaster they did, the only difference I had from before is, I was much more aware of my heart rate at the end of the ride. The added movement made my HR go up for a short amount of time. Other than that it was all fine. I can honestly say I have made few changes since getting the pm. I still play softball, ride 4 wheelers and continue to ride roller coasters....as far as the safety bars hitting the site, I did not have that problem either. It's always better to make sure from your physician whether you should be doing certain things, I have pretty much been given the green light on everything except chainsaws and shooting rifles. Good luck.

Just went to my doctor today...I have a pacemaker/defibular..my concerns were I have 2 trips to Orlando this summer a week each......my first trip will be Sea World.....been their before but wanted to know what my limits are....he said watch the signs for each ride..if it says if you have a bad heart this ride is not for you....also since I have a defibular too watch rides for magnets. All in all he said have a great time, relax. I also go to Disney the next trip I go every year but first time since my implant. Again common sense watch the signs...their are so many things to do...you will not feel cheated....I have had mine for about 1 and a half years no problem...I live as tho it is not even there.....life is wonderful...my doctor said the reason I am doing so well is that now I live instead of waiting to die. So Have a great time take plenty of pictures....cause your making memories.
