My hobby is woodworking and I'm concerned the motors in my shop equipment will kick off my ICD. Are there any woodworkers out there with advice and experience on this?

I must say I don't have an ICD, however I do have a pacemaker. I also have a beautiful lathe, a radial arm saw, a circular saw, a drill press and I could go on, but you get the picture I'm sure. Not one of these power tools interferes with the way my pacer works.

Now I know there are other people who love woodworking and have an ICD. I hope they can chime in and let us enjoy their experiences with the power tools.

Check with your Dr. if you are really concerned. ;-) Better to be safe than sorry.

Most modern motors used with shop equipment have very little magnetic field around them. Unless you have some very old equipment I doubt it is a problem.
One thing though to be aware of. If you have an ICD there is the possibility of it delivering a jolt when you are in a hazardous situation with the power tools. Until you have experienced a jolt and know how it affects you don't get into a place where you could be injured.

you should not have any problems at all . I have an ICD and I use every type of household tool you can have in a woodshop. I'm a heating and cooling mechanic and I use alot of power tools including hammerdrills for going thru cement or block walls. I've never had a problem and have not worked with any type of tool that have set my ICD off. I just make a rule of not resting the tool up against my left chest at the implant site. I've never had any type of interference registered by my device when my EP takes the reading . Now I can't speak about pacing interference. My ICD will only pace to try and pull me down from a VT episode, and if that doesn't work then its light up time. I wish you many woodworking days .

 

I even weld with my PM, and I've never had a problem. they are probably more effected by radio waves than a lot of things. HUGE magnetic waves would probably be a problem.
