Thyroid & Heart Condition Good News
Posted by Wingart on 2008-07-08 06:03

I haven’t posted for a while but have had my 6 month check today and thought I would give you an update. When my problems kicked off last summer not only was I diagnosed with Bradycardia & Third Degree Block, I also had an under active Thyroid. My pm was fitted in November and I was 100% paced both in the Atria & Ventricles.

I have never been medicated for the under active thyroid but have been monitored and over the past 6 months it has come back to “acceptable” parameters. I had wondered whether my heart would recover and today it has been confirmed. Although I am still paced 100% in the ventricles (to be expected with 3rd degree block), the Atria are now only pacing 18% of the time. Yippee.

I know that there are many on this site that have had Thyroid problems before their heart problems started and it is known that there is a direct correlation between the two conditions. I was wondering whether there are any other members out there that have found an improvement in their heart condition in relation to their Thyroid?

Oh and I have approx 6 ½ years left on my battery (current reading) so that’s another thing I haven’t got to worry about for a while.

If any other members have had the same experience I would be interested to hear from them.

Happy pacing

Chrissie

Hello Chrissie!
It is so nice to read of your good news. It is inspiring to know that good things are happening with a such a nice person.
I did have Graves Disease before and to treat it my thyroid was completely radiated and is now nonexistent. That sent me into hypothyroidisum. Meanwhile my heart developed it's problems of the bradiacardia, heart block, and now tachyacardia and the High Blood Pressure.
I would love to have my heart go back to "normal" condition. I am optimistic and hopeful, but I realize that it may not happen.
So yes, I believe that my thyroid problem is where my heart problems began.... it really was racing most of the time during the Graves Disease. I feel like it wore my heart out. It also did strange things to my personality, my hair, my bones, everything about me was affected.
Very good question Chrissie, thank you for asking.

Thyroid - drug side effect

I can relate. I've had both a hyper and hypo thyroid. My condition was a side effect of amiodarane, a heart drug.

I've got it under control now, but it took some time and tweaks to my thyroid meds.

All the best and I'm glad things are oing well for you.
