go carts

I've had my PM for over a year now and I was wondering if anyone has ridden a go cart with their PM. My family is going on vacation soon and we usually go out for a night of riding go carts. I usually drive as well, but since my PM I am hesitant to do so because the engine is so close to your body I don't know if it has any effect on your PM or not. I get my PM checked this afternoon and I will ask at the dr. but hearing from first hand experience helps a lot too. Any comments are welcome!

Go Carts

Hi Paula,

I haven't ridden a go-cart since I got my pacemaker, but I have spent many hours on my riding lawn mower. It has a rear mounted engine that is much bigger engine than a go cart engine. I have never had any problem what so ever. In addition I work under the hood of my car with the engine running and it does not cause me a problem

It is the electromagnetic field generated by engines that they say can cause a problem for our pacemaker. So long as you keep your pacemaker at least 7 or 8 inches from the engine you will not have a problem.

In the very unlikely event you do have a problem you will notice it as a slightly irregular heart beat. About like that you feel when they place the magnet over your pacemaker during a checkup. Should you notice that, don't panic, just move away from the go-cart for a few minutes and your pacemaker will return to normal operation. And your pacemaker will not have been harmed.

So go enjoy the go-cart and forget you have a pacemaker.

keep the wheels on the bottom, and don't hit any statonary objects. We have been given extra life so go and enjoy it.

I have a PM and have ridden a go cart every year since. I have even ridden all rides at amusement parks (roller coasters, very fast spinney things (lol), everything you can think of, and just rode a bunch of carnival rides this past week. I'd say....have fun and live your life!!!!!

Cheers:)
