Hello,
I have had a PM for 11 years and now on my 3rd device. I am interested in having breast augmentation and was wondering if anyone knows if this is possible with a pacemaker in place. I have spoken to a surgeon who tells me that he would need to ascertain where leads where and that generally pacemakers are in the same muscle as the breast implant so this may lead to infection etc. Are you aware of or know someone who has had breast augmentation when there has been a pacemaker in situ?
Thanks

I was hoping someone would answer this for you! Sorry, I don't have any personal experience. I'd be wary of it, especially if the doctor mentioned the risk of infection. It can't hurt to get another opinion, possibly the surgeon who did the pm.
I'd be more worried about discomfort than infection. I don't know where your pm is but between the scars that create the pocket it sits in and the wires, I wouldn't want to mess with it. My pm is submammary so I already have quite a bit of scar tissue in the breast that pulls sometimes. No way would I voluntarily add to it, but that's just me.
Be very careful.......

In my opinion having breast augmentation of any kind may be asking for trouble in view of your pacemaker. Is it worth the risk? Why not get push-up bras and be very grateful for what you have. Can you even picture in your mind what could happen if you had the surgery? Please, please get several opinions before subjecting yourself to surgery. Remember, there are surgeons out there who are greedy and unscrupulous and will tell you what you want to hear. Be very careful.....
