Hello everyone. I recently Decided to make some life changing decisions. I have started to exercise and loose weight. I would like to get back down to 150 or 160. I recently began to have muscle spasms around my pacemaker. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this issue while exercising. The other day I had one so bad I though I was having a heart attack. It was terrible. Any advice would be helpful.

This happens very often if the PM is unipolar, less often if it is dual polar. If you have the dual polar set-up, you can probably get the activation thresholds adjusted.

I had them in the doctors office when they adjusted the voltage up on my leads. As the user before me said have the PM checked, they may be able to adjust the thresholds down.

I have an odd sensation sometimes. You know, when you tie cloth or a rope, that friction sensation of rope/cloth against cloth? I get that sensation under my ICD when I've worked out decently hard, lasts for days. I actually think it's a spasm caused by either the irritation of the ICD itself or the sucures holding it in place. My ICD doesn't pace, so it's not a spasm caused by current.
Your not alone!

Hey Britt!
I miss you and am so sorry to hear about your spasms. It is very common. I have gone to the Dr. many times for my spasms. Mine are almost always present but when I start using my arm more they get intense. They tried the entire adjusting thing but that did no good. My pm is resting close to my nerve somewhat and when I move my arm in a funny way it triggers the nerve. I wish you luck on your exercising and remember to drink plenty of water as you are working out. Keep me posted and give your dr a call.
