My Cardiologist and I have a great relationship and are able to work together to achieve our mutual goal, quality of life. We always discuss options, weigh the pros and cons and ultimately he leaves the decision of what to do up to me. No repercussions, no arguments, once a decision is made, we move forward executing the plan as a team.

One of the things he shared with me awhile back has stuck with me. He told me they don’t know how I do so much with so little. May not sound like much to some people, but to me, it says our treatment plan is working better than anyone has a right to expect. I am convinced that working together with the right attitude you can make more of what you have.

Needless to say, I have become ...

I just read in the current issue of MORE magazine that Julie Bowen, the actress who plays Claire (the Mom) on the TV show, "Modern Family," has a pacemaker. She also reportedly runs six miles a day to stay in shape.

Don't know if she's a member of this club, but seems she would qualify.

Antidepressant Linked to Serious Heart Trouble

Taking the antidepressant Celexa or its generic equivalent? The FDA is warning that taking the drug at higher doses can cause potentially fatal heart problems.

The risk is especially high for people with certain heart conditions.

Just thought I'd pass this along for any of those who would like to discuss this with their cardiologists and/or family doctors.

Take care,
Pookie

I don't know if people overseas know about the wiggles much, but Jeff the "Purple Wiggle" just had a pacemaker installed. The Wiggles were about to go on tour to the US when Jeff's heart went into an arrythmia (wiggle) while he was driving and he passed out (fell asleep). The rest of the wiggles had to say "wake up Jeff". I know we all hear about 'Gerry and the pacemakers" here, but the news here reported that he should now form a new band called "Jeff and the Pacemakers". Another interesting thing about the Wiggles is that the old Yellow Wiggle, Greg, also had a type of heart problem with orthostatic hypotension and had to leave the band a few years ago.

I'm not going to go read through all there life stories on wikipeadia so I'm just fascinated to see if you know of any celebs (or anyone) with a PM! Especially if you know of any dancers it would be great :)

Pacemaker and ICD Recipients,

Today, I went to Pennsylvania Cardiology Associates and I saw a very well educated electrophysiologist; upon telling him my conditions and the quality of life I’ve been having, I mentioned to him that I’ve been sick for the past five years. I’ve also mentioned that because I can’t have an MRI done I couldn’t see what was going on with the back of my neck and head. I’ve told him all my symptoms, I also told him I wish I could have an MRI done to see what’s going on inside my head and neck, I told him for many years I’ve been told I couldn’t have an MRI done because I have a pacemaker.

The Electrophysiologist looked at me and asked,...

I wanted to thank everyone who responded to my frantic questions concerning the implantation of my CRT-D under the pectoral muscle. I had this done on May 3 and did very well. With the exception of the doctor saying I had a high tolerance for the sedation, all went well. I am still sore but can work (except the muscle in my neck kill me by EOD). I am hoping next week will improve even more.

For those who have had this done, can you tell me when you were back to 100%.

Did you know Iron man is a member of our club? If you see the latest movie "Iron Man 2", there is a line, where Pepper the assistant said "Not everyone runs on Batteries".

At that point, I turned to my wife and said, there are lots of us out here that are running on batteries!

Way to go Iron man!! Cheer up folks, we are in good company!

Hello to my new friends.

I am nominating Gretchen and Melissa as my famous members for their quick response to my problem. I was worried that I could not sleep on my stomach or side with a defibrillator and so had put off the implant. I will set it up now that I know it can be done. Thank you so much!

Daniel

The Pacemaker Club

A great place to find support and comfort, especially in our darkest hours of difficulties. When the doctor's office is close this place is always open. Just when we think we have been locked in our sufferings, a shine of hope pierces through, giving us hope on something we once knew, good health. May we never forget our place in this wonder family of hearts, "The Pacemaker club."

May all be bless with good health in these upcoming
Holiday Seasons!

I know I speak for everyone when I say,
"We love you Blake for giving us a place to stay!"
THANK YOU FROM ALL OF US! ...

Does anyone have or know someone that has a Phrenic Nerve pacemaker? (the phrenic nerve controls your diaphragm, which is the muscle necessary to breathe)
My doc in Atlanta was telling me about it the other day. It doesn't sound like anything I would want. Just curious to see if there's anyone out there. Probably not, but thought I might as well try.

Hello Folks,

How you have had a MUGA? I had about 1/3 of one Thursday and would like to know if any of you have had anything like the experience I had.

I got the radioactive substance injection and went to the scanner. They got me all wired up with the 3 leads and she next thing I hear is "something is wrong, I'm getting a heart beat of less than 30 BPM and it must be above 30 to do the scan." Over the next 30 minutes, or so, they replaced the electrode pads, repositioned the pads, sand papered (literally) the spots where the electrodes were to be attached, all to no avail. Finally, one of the nurses said they were going to ask the doctor what they should do now and the next thing I'm told is "the doctor said we ...

We must keep records of everything.

’If somebody has a bad heart, they can plug this jack in at night as they go to bed and it will monitor their heart throughout the night.  And the next morning, when they wake up dead, there’ll be a record’

I had my pacemaker check at the Geelong Hospital yesterday. They don't implant Ela's in Geelong so they got a technician to come down from Melbourne to the Cardiology Department. He was a really nice guy and knew my Technician in Hobart. He did make some comment about my pacemaker being set low. It is on 50 min - 132 max rate. It was set at this a couple of years ago when I felt a kick in the ribs each time the pacemaker started. If I was sitting down I would have to get up and walk around.

Lately I have been getting a bit puffed if I move quickly or am very active. The cardio put me on a blood pressure tab with some diuretic in it. It has made a bit of difference but I am beginning to feel like a blob again and my fing...
