The Hospital for Sick Children cardiology department is having their annual gathering in September 2007. We would love to host a guest speaker who is also a famous (or not-so-famous) pacemaker recipient. We are looking for a sports person or a singer or someone who tends to be inspiring. We usually host a guest speaker, last year it was a magician, illusionist.
We have about 100 children and their families who attend. It is run by the fabulous medical team at HSC.
Is there any way to get in touch with someone who might be interested???

I'm writing this posting to everyone. I thank you all for being in my life. I know I'm not perfect, but my Lord is. I hope that when you guys read something that I write and you don't agree with it, you'll understand I'm not doing things to hurt anyone. I really enjoy all that I read and continue reading here on this wonderful web site. You've all have been a part of my life for some time and I hope we can continue to help one another get through this stumbling block. Thank you for being who you are and I'm here if you need someone to write to.

I'm really thankful for the fact that I have a pacemaker. If I hadn't, I would not have known you all. Take care and God bless you.

We stand underneath the same winds and skies that our God has given unto the first man. The very waters that man has been given is still here today. The sun that God has commanded to be will not fail to give us it's shining light. The seasons that never fall out of order continue to show us that God's word is still being obeyed. The stars will stand in their places to guide us in the night. What would we do if God's word were not real. How could we control the wind? How could we change the sky? How could we keep our water from disappearing? How could we hold a flaming ball of fire in its place? How could we keep the seasons coming in there rightful order? How could we keep the stars from running away into the night? HOW COU...

John Hopps, a Canadian, invented the first heart pacemaker. At the age of 21, he joined the National Research Council in 1941 after training at the University of Manitoba as an electrical engineer. He found that by using mechanical means the heart could be artificially started again after it was exposed to a cooling process. With this discovery, Hopps was able to build the first pacemaker in 1950.

In 1958, the first pacemaker was implanted in a human body. Unfortunately in 1984, Dr. Hopps had to have a pacemaker in order to regulate his heart. At this point in time, this invention was considered to be routine surgery. Thirteen years later, Hopps received his second pacemaker. The first pacemaker had lost its charge a...

Yesterday I had Fox news (or one of the news chanels) and they were talking about the Miss America pageant that's on tomorrow. They were talking to Miss Massachusetts. Her platform is heart disease/care, especially among women. She has an ICD. I think I started listening because I'm from MA but thought it was neat that even if she doesn't win she's getting some publicty on her cause now.

Canadian singer & songwriter, Jann Arden was born on March 27, 1962. She had a pacemaker for 17 years, but it was recently removed because she no longer was using it all that much, if ever. Besides, it kept setting off alarms everywhere she went. "One tends to really think about living and dying when you get a pacemaker implanted at 20 years old." Her pacemaker experience inspired her popular "Will You Remember Me" song.

I am 100% pacemaker dependant and have been all my life. I try not to think about how a little metal box keeps me alive - it would drive me crazy. So I lead a very active life.
