Question re Leads

This may be a very stupid question, but I'll ask it anyway. I know someone in this very helpful group will have the answer. If I had a different brand of PM implanted, would the leads also have to be replaced? In other words, could the existing leads still be used? Betty

Good question

No, your leads should not need to be replaced. Most leads can be used with any brand of device. The industry changed to interchangeable leads many years ago.

I have a Medtronic PM with Guidant leads----I don't know why! It works though.

I'm so new at this I never even thought to ask that one!
That's why we all need each other and why we encourage any and all questions.

My understanding is that leads are not replaced each time a generator is replaced. My doctor explained that a generator replacement is a simple placement under the skin and hook up to leads. I certainly hope so! My leads are what caused the most trouble!!!! My understanding is that adding new leads can be done only so often and then they must remove old leads to make room for new ones. Please someone tell me I am not getting new leads everytime they relpace the PM!

I thought that leads were routinely replaced, or rather, new leads were inserted with each PM replacement.
