My biventricular ICD is close to skin erosion. It is not infected. It’s really painful. So next week they are doing a pocket revision into the muscle. Just wondering how painful it is, how long it takes, and what is recovery time?

Revision

Hello

I haven't had a revision but I have had a replacement.

It really isn't different to the first implantation, and probably easier and quicker as it's only been in for a year?

There's never been any pain involved and timewise, you are looking at anything up to an hour.

All this assumes that it's straightforward and if you didn't have any complications before during implant, you probably won't get any now.

Good luck and hope all goes well.

Hi AMYZ, sorry to hear you are going through this. I found an old post by DAISY0388 which you can find if you use the search function entitled Pocket Revision. This might be of relevance. Are you having the device implanted sub pectorally or buried deeper into the muscle? I am in a similar position to you, petite frame and CRT device which looks like it will work through the skin. It is very uncomfortable. Can I ask, did you request the revision or was it something recommended by your medical team? I only had my surgery last Summer so an reluctant to put my body through another surgery so soon but it's tricky when you don't know how long before erosion could occur. I really hope all goes well for you with the surgery. Although it might be sore initially, I hope that, longer term it will relieve the discomfort you are currently feeling with your device. Let us know how it goes. Sending you lots of luck and best wishes.

I had my new CRT-D in late December moved to under the muscle.  It is more medially than the other devices I've had.  The surgeon had suggested moving it. It is still uncomfortable/sensitive but should continue to heal.  If it's that painful, that's a long time to endure that pain for the life of the device.
