Sinus and allergies issues

Can anyone recommend a good medication/remedy for sinus headaches? I get them often and so far have not found anything they helps alleviate them. Any suggestions??? Is it not commended to take a decongestant with a pacemaker or is that OK?

I dont know if you have ever heard of a neti pot for your sinus? I heard about it on Oprah Dr Oz was talking about it. It is a flush for your sinus's. You can get them at like Walgreens etc I get lots of sinus headaches and have allergies and find that it really does help and is a good way to keep your sinus cleaned out. It's a saline solution that you put in the neti pot there are insturctions with them.

Sudafed isn't a good idea because it can mess with your hr. Some of the otc allergy meds do not have psuedephedrine (no clue how to spell it!) any longer but use something else instead, no idea if the new drug is are ok for us or not. I don't know anyone that gets relief from it so I've never tried it.

When my allergies were really bad, the best thing I found was taking an antihistimine daily as a preventative. Once the headaches get out of control, it's a lot harder to deal with. Those gel masks you put in the fridge help, sometimes alternating them with heat (nuke a wet washcloth) when it's really bad. They sell a steam thing at the pharmacy, it looks like a mask and you put your face over it (blanking on the name!), it helps too.

Ten years ago I went to a chiropractor for my back/neck after a car accident. When he adjusted my neck, my allergies went away and I haven't had a problem since, that was after years of battling constant sinus headaches and chronic sinusitis. Not everyone gets results that drastic, but it can't hurt to try. Worst case, it doesn't work. I still see the chiro once a month or so, adjustments don't last forever but it sure beats drugs. He also got me off the pain meds I was on for chronic back pain, which was the reason I went in the first place. I'm sure 6 people will jump in now with chiropractor horror stories, but it worked for me! There are a lot of bad and mediocre chiros out there for every good one so they get a bad rep.

Ditto for the neti pot

I have a neti pot and believe me it really works in cleaning out the sinuses. I am a firm believer in not using any medication if not necessary.

Now if you have true allergies, do you know what you are specifically allergic to thay causes the sinus headaches? Perhaps allergy shots or claritin, etc without the decongestant? Check with your doctor, but I would give the neti pot a try and in a couple of weeks you'll definitely be breathing better.
