Horseback Riding

After three years with a pacer they found broken leads so last
week had a new unit placed and new leads on the other side
of the old pacer. I took up horseback riding last year and love it.
Im wondering if any one knows the what the DR's think about riding horses with a pacer? Oh did I mention I'm 70 but a young
70.
Thanks
Dick

Your still wet behind the ears at 70. I'm a young 80.

As for horseback riding, I doubt it is any worst than driving my Jeep over the rocks and boulders.

The only place where something with a lot of movement can be a problem is if the Rate Response option in the pacer is turned ON. It senses movement an uses it to set the pacing heart rate, so bouncing along can drive your HR up. Even that can be adjusted to compensate.

As far as the doc's are concerned recommendations are all over the place. It just depends on who you have for a doc. The main thing is to give the new leads a few weeks before doing raising an arm about shoulder level. This could be a be a problem mounting the horse. Here again, docs vary widely in their instructions. My cardiologist just said to hold off on the arm lifting until I saw him in a couple of weeks. Others report as much as 6-8 weeks.

I feel you are only as old as you feel and your health will permit. You only live once ~ go for the zest ~ ~

Have a great ride,
