Disconnected Feeling

Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone has had this experience: A feeling of being disconnected, walking on air, medicine head? I do have some anxiety at times, but when I feel this medicine head feeling I'm just walking along minding my own business and thinking that I'm feeling fine. I'm taking 25mg Topril 2xdaily and 10mg Paxil and 5mg Norvasc and 500mg Metformin. I also take a variety of vitamins. My dx was for bradycardia/2nd and 3rd degree av block so I'm about 97% dependent.
Thank you to all that have been supportive and given me awesoe encouragement these past few weeks. I am feeling better physically and working on the depression and anxiety. Blanca

Hi Blanca.

I too went thru what I call brain fog for a very long time until finally I sat down with my Pharmacist and she made me a schedule on when the best times I should be taking my meds, with or without food, etc. It made a big difference on how I felt.

Unfortunately, all drugs have side effects, some people are lucky and don't feel it or the side effects are not bothersome enough to quit the medication all together. And then there are people like me, that I seem to get every side effect mentioned and then some!! LOL.

I have read where Beta Blockers can make you feel foggy. I was also on Norvasc and it didn't agree with me either...I was dizzy, foggy, exhausted.

Glad to hear you are doing better physically. The Depression and Anxiety, for some, takes a bit more work. But you will get through it. Heck, I'm still working on mine. LOL.

You're on the right road and we're all here to cheer you on.

I think I know what you mean...

Hi there, Blanca!

I also have AV block and sinus node issues along with severe bradycardia (4 BPM) and neurocardiogenic syncope. My doctors tried diagnosing me for 5 years--it wasn't until I "died" in my classroom and then went the ER that they caught it all on tape and gave me a pm via emergency surgery. I've been great since.

I, too, was on Toprol XL 50mg daily. I'm off it now.

But I think it was interesting how you explain your "disconnected" feeling. When I first started blacking out 'out of the blue', I was feeling this strange "feeling" all of the time. It was a feeling and like an experience all in one. It was like an out of body experience--like I would be driving and knew I was driving but I'd suddenly feel like I was far away from what I was doing. It's such a hard thing to explain. It would happen when I would be just walking down a hallway. I would also be able to hear what was going on, but it was like the noise of what was going on around me was quiet and this strange quietness was loud when I was "far away." It was definitely a feeling of disconnectedness. It's been a long time since I've had that feeling (I'm going on 3 years with the pm) or had to explain it to someone. I hope what I'm saying kinda makes sense?! My feeling is from the sudden drop in heart rate and blood pessure.

I can imagine that your depression/anxiety wouldn't help your disconnected feeling. I'm not a doctor and couldn't tell you if there is a possibility of your meds being the culprit. Have you been on these meds before your pm implant? It could also be getting your pm tweaked just right to your condition. Then again, it could be a symptom of your bradycardia--even though a pm is supposed to help with the bradycardia, it doesn't mean that all your symptoms will go away. Perhaps you are having issues with your BP and heart rate trying to drop suddenly--that could cause that feeling.

If it continues to be bothersome, don't give up! Keep telling ALL your doctors about it to see if you can get to the bottom of it. Sometimes you have to be the squeaky wheel...

Depression and anxiety can do awful things to us. It took me a long time to settle down after my pm implant.

The best advice given to me was by my long time friend. "Take all the meds you can at night" I found this worked.

I find when I am anxious or depressed I get this feeling of being disconnected from the world. I think it goes with my nature!!! Some things are good to be disconnected from for a while.!!!!!! But it does make me feel weired I have stopped worrying about it and just go off and do something quietyly like sewing or reading a book. I take it as a sign my system is being overloaded by family demands and that it is time for me to log out for a while.

Hope you find a solution to what is concerning you.

Sincere wishes.
