ALCOHOL

by pete - 2009-12-04 02:12:18

Alcohol is no good for us pacemaker patients. It puts the heart under great strain. I found that just one drink could trigger Afib. There are plenty of nice things to drink other than alcohol. My wife gets angry with me for not wanting a glass of wine. I have red grape juice instead. Cheers Peter

Have not read this artical yet, but I do know when I asked my GP, my heart Dr. and on and on why I ended up with A-fib? ~ the standard answer was "age" and IF I imbided a lot over the years.

Well, I am aging as in ol' wine, gracefully ~ ha-ha! And I must say, everyday is a new and wonderfully different day ~ the birds sing, the trees are turning, whoa!

Over the years of "aging", my husband and I enjoyed life and the life of the parties. So at this point, I guess I am a "double-barreled" A-fib ~ A-flutter. Since my PM/ablation 11/2/09, I have neither, NOR do I have wine or any other "spirit". (May do a lil' wine at holidays.)

Anything and everything my family and I have in common, we always add it up to genetics. My Sister who is a vegetarian has high cholestoral, I have had high BP/Cholestoral, etc.

Holidays are nearing, have a wonderful December ~

i had abstained from alcohol for many years to support an alcoholic relative, who thankfully has now been dry for 10 years. anyway...........i had hundreds of afib episodes when i didnt drink, as soon as i started drinking they lowered and lowered and lowered, and in the last 6 months had none!!!!!!!!! the body is a funny thing isnt it!!
