Avid golfers?

Any avid golfers out there with a PM or ICD?

Do you think 10 weeks is long enough time for the leads to heal? I have taken it pretty easy on my arm, and am starting to get a little anxious to swing the sticks around.

Most doctors agree a minimum of 6 weeks. Some say 8-10, a few say as long as 3 months. The odds of dislodging a lead after 6 weeks is very minimal. I'd start easy and make sure you don't feel any pulling, then go for it!

Got my PM in May a couple of years ago and had to basically forget golfing for the season - AND I JUST BOUGHT NEW CLUBS!!!

I waited the 10 weeks. Didn't improve my game any, but I've had no problems.

Hi there, I dont play golf myself, but i think it should be ok, because unless you are playing some very strange shots you wouldnt be lifting your left arm up above your head. Just go steady at first, go for accuracy rather than distance and enjoy!!!

When I had my 6 week check-up I was told I could use my arm again, but to avoid the sudden movements from things like golf, baseball, etc for another 2 months to make sure the leads are secured. At the end of the day it comes down to what your cardiologist tells you as to when you can resume activites. I always look at is as better safe than sorry. I would rather miss out on some acivities for a couple more months than start over and have to get the leads put back into place.

I had my new PM installed 5/30/09 and have played several rounds of golf starting 7/9/09 with no side effects whatsoever. On 7/14/09, I just went to the VA for my PM checkout (by Cardioligist and Medtronics tech) and no problems whatsoever.

Matter of fact, I have been playing on a slow pitch softball team at shortstop (many hard hit balls come my way) since 30 days after the operation and all systems go.

Good luck
