Being a trumpet player and having a pm

I play the trumpet during my years of playing the trumpet I have had my pm replaced two times. Once when I was 12 and then again when I was 15. The problem I have is that for about the first year and a half after the replacement when I am playing in the upper register of the trumpet I'll have twinges, very sudden pinching and painful twinges at the incision site. I actually went into the office one day with my horn and played on it and recreated the problem. The reason it was happening, they said, was that the nerves of the incision site were being pinched or aggravated by the trumpet playing. I don't know how many wind/brass players are on this site but if you have any hints or suggestions on what to do about it that would be very helpful. I'm a music ed. major I want to teach the Junior High level and while it may last only for a short period of time I need to know how to navigate it.

I'm a trumpet player too. I just got my first PM 2.5 weeks ago and haven't tried playing yet. I think I'm going to wait for the 6 week mark before I get back on the horn. How long did you wait?
