It has been 3 years since I had my ICD. I still get pain in my arm and neck. I am now in physical therapy to try and stretch the muscles. I was told that it was because I babied/protected the muscles around my device and now I have to work the muscles and scar tissues to stretch alittle.

Where in Neck?

I am two weeks out from surgery and am getting a nagging/tearing/ripping felling at the base of my neck (collarbone) and up the left side of my neck (following the artery/tendon). Skin is sensitive to touch and when I move certain ways it feels like someone hooked me with a fish hook and is pulling on the line. So far have been told that I have:

a) pulled a muscle (I have been active my whole life and know what a muscle pull feels like) and this is not it. Also muscle pulls get better not worse with rest and anti-inflam drugs like IB.

b) since it is not near the incision (about two inches away) that it is not surgery related (but it is very near where they would have made the vascular incision for the lead placement) and I had not problems like this before surgery.

c) that it will just go away (but it has been getting worse, especially since the beginning of the 2nd week postop up to the point where it is impacting my sleep).

Was just wondering if any of you who had this 'neck' pain if this sounded familiar. Have another appointment with my doc today or tomorrow since so far all I have seen is the nurse and pm tech both of which didn't have any ideas other than what I listed above.

Hi cobradybunch, i just came upon your post of 3 yrs ago about you neck. I hope you're better by now because I have the same problem! I just got my pm 5/29/12 and then my new EP said it had to be moved because it was in the wrong place. I got the new placement 7/17/12. Problem is original placement was painful and new placement is even more so in my neck. Your description of fish hook pull is right on. Please tell me it's gone......
