CT Scans

Does anyone recall my concerns about the CT scan? Well, I'm still not having one (can't take iodine) but I found some interesting information about the test and radiation! Here is the link.

I am going to question every medical test that requires radiation.

Have a great day!

I was shocked!

Pacergirl,

I didn't access the link you provided, but an article on CT scans was in the July 2010 issue of Good Housekeeping Magazine (Rachel Ray on the cover).

I never knew that 1 CT scan emitted so much radiation. The article stated that:

1 CT Head Scan = 30 chest x-rays
1 CT Chest Scan = 119 chest x-rays
1 CT Abdomen Scan = 234 chest x-rays

Another statement was :"15,000 Americans will die of cancer from CT scans given in a single year, predict scientists at the National Cancer Institute."

Then, the most shocking info was that the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles over a period of 18 months performed 260 brain scans at 8 times the expected dose. This was attributed to lack of regulation when training the people who perform the scan.

I had a CT chest scan when I was in the hospital to rule out a heart attack when I was experiencing the heart block. But believe me I question every medical procedure the doctor performs. It is my life and I have the final say-so!

Weird Coincidences

This is weird because I just posted a question about the risk of radiation from CT Scans and X-rays. I caught part of a report. I've had multiple CT Scans in the past year and even though I have explained to Dr. A, that doctors B and C did a CT Scan, they don't want to see it...they order one at their own facility. I've had 4-5 CT scans in the past 9-10 months. That doesn't include the 8-10 x-rays.

ok

ok, so that's the reason my cardiologist only wants me to have a CT scan every two years and not the yearly one he would prefer.
and that's why on the year I don't have a CT scan I have to have an echo.
a bit scary
