sub -pectoral implant vs just under skin

What would be some of the advantages and drawbacks of these types of implants. If deeper, I can be more active and not worry? Thanks, Steve.

Burying it deeper has a longer recovery time and some people have problems with the muscle getting irritated when they're active. Upsides are you're less likely to hit it when playing sports, backpack straps don't hurt, it's less visible.

Mine is behind the breast, put in from the side, so it's very deep but not in muscle. I can feel it when I pms but the rest of the time I don't even know it's there. The only time I've ever aggravated it in fifteen years of activity was when our Wii was new and I was obsessed with beating my 12 yr old's score at boxing. I cut back (after knocking her out of #1, of course) and haven't had a problem since.

Sub-pec and location

Thank you very much.I just forwarded this to my doc as I think I want it deeper as I am fairly active.

Wish mine wasn't put in so fast

My pacemaker got put in quick. Something about them not wanting my heart to keep pausing as much as it did. I do wish I had had a chance to research more implantation options. Mine is located under the muscle but it seems like it could have been put in deeper than it was. As mentioned before I can definitely feel the outline of the top of the unit and that is going to bug me and I think it will be an issue for backpacking and cycling with a Camelback. Will no more soon since I am just now returning to normal activities after being down for a month from lifting and certain movements post-op.

Sub-pec

Mine is sub-pectoral so I cant really compare the two. It did take awhile to heal and I did bruise alot. The upside is once I healed I have pretty much returned to all my activities. I still work out everyday, hunt fish, water ski all the fun stuff. I even played tackle football and softball again. I also continue to be a volunteer fire fighter. So wearing packs, life jackets and other gear I had very little or no discomfort over the ICD . I have had very little issue's with pain, unless I was hit right on top of the ICD. Even then the pain didn't last long. Hope this helps

I also worry...

I'd love to have my implant gone or at least placed sub-pectorally, but my biggest concern is possible pain. My implant hurts where it is, but it's extemely visible.

I don't want to be faced with the choices of.

Keep is just under the skin and remain covered up for the rest of my life.
or have it placed sub-pectorally, ber able to actually take off my shirt, but live with more pain that I have now for the rest of my life.
