Thank you to those who posted replies. They have made me feel a lot better about having a PM and the procedure itself.
I think that the main reason my cardiologist wants me to have one is so I can take some medication for AF. My pulse is slow averaging 54 and when I take AF med it goes too slow and I feel terrible.
We want to travel in outback Australia, so it is a preventative measure. I perform really well on a stress test (except for my knees :-), have trouble getting the pulse rate up. I think I'm fairly fit.
Once again thanks for the replies, it certainly helps to hear of other's experiences,
Lizzie

Lizzie, I had a similar problem to yours and know how awful meds can make you feel especially when your HR is almost nonexistent. Other than the fact that I had a small complication with surgery I'm doing great! It's been almost 3 months now and am doing everything except golf yet that I did before. Most all the time my rhythm is normal (no afib) I had one episode of that since the PM and they increased my beta blocker again and so far so good. I should have done this a year ago. I didn't realize how much more energy I would have as it came on so slowly-simple things like going upstairs without stopping 1/2 way up and doing walking and yard work-this has been a miracle for me!
