Broke the 60 mile barrier today

Just wanted to pass this along for those of you who are wondering if you can get back to exercising and living a full life after implant. Some of you know me, some don't. Had an emergency pacer implant when I was 50 in 2009 for 'heart naps'. Went through some tough times like many here have talked about but decided to set a goal to do a bike ride here in Colorado called the Triple Bypass.

Got to within ten days of the ride in 2010 and was really ready for it. Unfortunately that day I had an SUV driver broadside me while biking and I broke my leg, some ribs, messed up my shoulders and a variety of other injuries. Got home that night and said I was going to do the Triple in 2011.

Unfortunately my leg didn't heal right so I had to have some more metal put in my body at the end of December and spent 8 weeks in a boot, 6 completely non-weight bearing. Finally about 6 weeks ago got clearance to start riding again and today I broke 60 miles for the first time (the Triple is 120) and climbed over 2000 feet (the Triple has 10000). I have a long way to go but I am going to get there. So for those of you wondering if it can be done, can you get back, can you get over this life changing event of having a pacemaker installed (or an SUV hitting you)... YES IT CAN!!!!!!

You must like challenges

Anything including being hit by an SUV to make the ride challenging.

I like the easy life. I did the Imogene Pass run to 13,200' (in my Jeep). LOL

Sure beautiful country there in Colorado. I hope to get over there again this summer if the snow melts in the high country.

60 Mile Barrier Broken

Yea: I was a road kill too! While on my bike training for a Tri at 52. A lady hit me with her car,Tore my Right Clavicle out and I spent 6 months in Phy Therapy after the operations. Lady who hit me ran a stop sign and said she was in a hurry!??

After a year or less got back in the groove doing Tri's. Did my last on in 2008 at 66 finished third in my age class, then A-fib set in. Bummer! had to get a PM to fix and control it, now back to the Tri's at 69!

I also got spinal stenosis, could not walk after awhile, they put a plastic spacer between my L4 and L5 vertebra , now I am good to go again! Running, Biking, and Swimming!

Life is good! So what if we have PM's and Spacers to keep us going as we age. Go for that 60 Plus ride! Life is Beautiful! Jim Myrtle Beach SC

okay... now I have a new hero. I swim sort of like a rock (I can swim but never have been able to get more than 20 laps and that is really a struggle) so never got into the tri thing but damn man you are awesome. And the running thing, well the way my leg has been going I hope I can do that again but not sure. My ankle wants to roll all the time now so right now I am staying on the bike. Let's keep in touch...
