catheter ablation ?

Thank you all that responded, I have a few other things to add that I forgot to mention before. My mom had what you call a catherter ablation, I guess this procedure burns out the heart cells that cause the irregular heart beat. After that they connected the pacemaker. If anyone had this procedure done, or knows about it ..I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know how it is going for you. As I mentioned before, my mom had the surgery last Monday, and is very depressed that her breathing has not improved very much and she still feels very bloated. I told her about this site, but she seems too upset to care right now. I am hopeing to guide here when she is feeling better. Thank You for any help you can give us. Kym

I'm still a relatively newby but would just like to say bless you for caring about your mum. Tell her that I was really breathless for about 2 months after I got my pm, much more than before I got it, and then suddenly I just started improving and improving. Try to get her to do a bit of walking every day to keep herself fit. We all get very depressed as well at first but that eventually goes, I'm not saying its all a doddle but if she works at it with your support she should get much better.

I am 70 and had an ablation almost 3 years ago, after having had an ICD for 7 years, I found that recovery is improved greatly if you have a positive approach and realise that the alternative would have been much worse!!
I am breathless after only short walks, but I just do them slowly and look more closely at the beautiful scenery around me. You see a lot more and hear the sounds of nature more clearly when going slow.
Do ,please, encourage your mother to be positive about the benefits she has just by being alive to experience them.

i forgot to add that i also spoke with my EP he is the one who put me on the medrol pack. i didnt decide that i had pericarditis on my own or with just internet info.

i had a afib cath ablation done and after doing research on the internet it was decided that i had pericarditis and was placed on lasix and a medrol dose pack (steroid) i was much better in a week. i was told to try motrin 600 mg three times a day first to see if it helped which it did not. pericarditis is not unusual after an ablation due to inflammation of the heart. it is very depressing to go through this and think that you did it for nothing. i had mine due to afib and i still have at least 2 or 3 episodes of afib 4 times a wk. the md says it can take up to 3 months to know for sure if the ablation was a sucess. do i feel a lot better no i do not, do i feel better than before the ablation yes i do , do i regret having it no i do not ,would i; do it again yes i would. before the ablation i was in afib all the time. i can hope with time i will feel better. have your mom to mention it to her md and good luck and prayers to you.
