Still Grieving

Hello all, I'm new to this site and I hope I can get some good info about this situation. My father had a pacemaker implanted two years ago. He has been perfectly fine since. No complications at all. He walked two miles a day, rode ATV's with us, very active and healthy and happy. Five days after he had his pacemaker settings "adjusted", he dropped dead outside his home one Saturday morning. Has anybody had this happen to a loved one?

Cause Of Father's Death?

Hello Camille,

Welcome to the Pacemaker Club.

I'm very sorry it was tragic the loss of your father that brought you to the site.

Not much I can add to what Patch said, but I will offer a couple of things for thought, maybe. Did your father complain of anything that you think was pacemaker related after he had the settings adjusted? Many times when they "adjust" setting they make changes for whatever reason during checkup but in the end they put the settings back to what they were when we go in.

Take mine for example. Everytime I go in for a checkup they do all sorts of things and I invariably think "My God what are they changing this time?" Then after I leave and look at the printout of my checkup report, and I see nothing is different from what it was when I went in.

Honestly, I would be very surprised if they could have done anything to the pacemaker that would have caused your father's sudden death. I know I have never heard of such before. Hopefully they did and autopsy so that you and your family will not always wonder what happened.

Please accept my condolences to you and your family.
