AV node ablation

Hi

I'm a recent member of the club.Hope to find some answers to a few questions I have.
I'm considering having an AV ablation because medication isn't working properly and I'm having problems with them (kidney problems etc.)
Has anyone any first-hand experiences on how the pacemaker (Dddr) works after the ablation has been done? In exercise for example. Does it take time to react to the required heartbeat switches? How long does it take to get back to normal? What is the quality of life after the AV node ablation and pacemaker installation? And so on.

If anyone can tell about these topics or anything else I would be very grateful.

Jaro

Pacing method

According to recint literature, you can get pacing that activates the cardiac conductoin system to prevent the deliterious affects of pacing that bypasses it. So, for a natutural physiological contraction, ask for His bundle pacing. If you don't get a response, look up a Dr, who does it. Patients who, according to a study, have been paced into heart failure by pacing in cardiac muscle, have had their hearts reverse remodeled to normal ejection fraction by pacing the His bundle.

Google cardiac conduction system.

My Afib was evolving into Vtac and the meds were less than useless. An AV ablation was done about two years ago. I am now on coumadin to maintain INR 2.5. I take lisinopril (sp ) and hydro pill and that is it. I am now 78 and doing well. It took a little tinkering to adjust a suitable ramp up and down. I am satisfied with my implant.

GO FOR IT

With a Dddr pacemaker your pacemaker and heart should respond immediately to the completion of an AV node ablation. Almost instant improvement with further pick up over time.No real waiting time. Quality of life also should be excellent. I am talking for personal experience. Nice to see someone from Finland on the site and to reply to someone on this side of the atlantic. My rate response is set to 70 low and 120 high. Hope that helps. Cheers Peter

AV note Ablation/PM

by lanaw - 2009-08-01 03:08:24

Jaro, my husband is 39 years old -has had 2 pulmonary vein ablations, numerous cardioversions, AF, now A flutter which is drug resistant...they are discussing PM now and AV node ablation-so very similar to your story. Have you made up your mind? I am doing research on this to see what I can find out, others experiences, etc. I guess we were just hoping this last ablation would "fix" all...but it hasn't it, it is actually worse now. I know that once the AV node is ablated he won't be able to take advantage of the medical advances if they figure out how to treat or cure AF. Besides, because of his young age everyone just says PM is the last resort, but reading through some of these posts - I am gathering this happens to everyone and there is certainly life after PM implantation. My other concern is that even with PM, AF doesn't go away, is that going to damage his heart further? Don't quite know what to think at this point, in the "info gathering" mode at this time. Just know that something has to be done because we really can not deal with the emergency rooms weekly etc.

Thank you.

Lana
